Summary: Niggles
Comment: Owing to the fact that "she" occasionally doesn't know her left from her right, the voice commands are unreliable and I no longer have them turned on.
When only using the View Map function it shows only a selection of the streets coming up ahead.

Summary: Garmin Nuvi 255 SatNav
Comment: Simple and accurate. Would be better to include a printed manual, rather than one on the Garmin web site. To a non-tech like me, the free update is somewhat complicated and takes a long time to download. Apart from these points, I like the product. It does what it says on the tin. Good value.

Summary: Does what it is supposed to do
Comment: I spent hours reading reviews of loads of different sat navs and couldn't find a single one that didn't seem to have some kind of problem. Eventually though, it became apparent that the issues fell into two camps. There are, without doubt, some that don't work very well for specific reasons of being too quiet or not finding the satellites quickly enough or just being plain wrong, but these were in the minority. The vast majority of the negative reveiws were written by tech-heads who wanted their purchase to do things that I am just not interested in (like be a phone or have blue tooth technology) or wanted to update the maps on a weekly basis or some such.

I paid £[] for this thing and if it lasts two or three years, I reckon that is good value. I might try and update it on line, I might just buy another one, but what I won't do is get my knickers in a twist because it is not very good at being something that its makers plainly didn't design it to be, namely a mini laptop or somesuch.

This thing works. You take it out of the box, then you plug it in, you tell it where to go and it tells you how to get there. My only gripe, and it is a real one, is that you cannot use the alphabet for house names, which is understandable, but annoying. So, once you have punched in the postcode, it asks you for a house number which most of the time I can't do because we live in the country and houses don't have numbers, they have names.

Other than that though, this was a good buy and as long as you don't want it to wash your clothes and make the tea, you should consider it as your sat nav de choix.

Summary: The basic function of a Navigator failed ... please don't buy this ...
Comment: Bought this Garmin and thought it is a good one.

The basic function failed in this, Driving from Reading to Cornwall the navigator took us only through A roads (the setting in the device was set to Show the Fastest route and surely not the shortest route). The basic function failed ... While driving back it started to take us through A roads again but then we took the M road then the navigator changed it self and showed the M route.

The next time I plan a trip I will first plan my route and then start in that direction not towards the direction this navigator tells me,

Very Very poor navigator in terms of this planning, else POI is good, Accuracy of the place is good and everything else is good.

Just imagine you bought this navigator without having any idea of routes and it takes you through A roads all the way to your destination causing a long delay... this is not what a navigator meant to do. I will recommend Tom Tom .... this one is just a pain .....

Summary: Very disappointed
Comment: The unit looked nice and had good visibility even in sunlight. Easy to use but I must have got a duff one because the battery wouldn't charge up more than 75% and the thing crashed on me and wouldn't load up again even with a hard reset. This happened on a driving trip to France which was the exact reason I bought it. I wouldn't put my trust in another Garwyn and returned it for a Tom Tom instead.
