Customer Rating: Summary: Duff pair? Twice?? Comment: I bought a pair of these recently to replace my sony in ear headphones, and couldn't believe how poor the sound was when I first used them. I tried all the different ear adapters to make sure I had the best fit possible, and gave them a good run in over a day or so, but it made no difference. The treble was paper thin and tinny, and there was absolutely zero bass. A paper cone would do a better job. So I sent them back assuming they were faulty, but the replacement pair were exactly the same! Either I got unlucky, twice (which doesn't say much for Shures QA process does it!), or they are actually just terrible headphones. Does seem odd that they get so many good reviews, including 5* from what hifi... bizarre.
Customer Rating: Summary: Good sound but painful to wear Comment: Don't be mistaken - the sound quality of these buds is very good, but MY GOD they're uncomfortable. Your ears are screaming for relief after a while and the build quality is dubious (they feel pretty cheap) for earbuds costing this much. They isolate sound very well, however.
Customer Rating: Summary: They work for me Comment: I just bought these from HMV as I needed new headphones straight away. I have a pair of Shure somewhere but can't find them hence this purchase. I have just listened to the Foo Fighters acoustic of Everlong from the Skin and Bones album. Sound is excellent. Great clarity, separation and the bass seems fine to me. There is plenty of bass at the end of this song along with piano and all is clear. Tried Muse, Sing For Absolution which is pretty bass heavy and again I find nothing wrong with the bass. Same goes for Apocalypse Please. I really don't understand how anyone could need more bass. I'm only listening to compressed files on an Ipod as well. Just listened to the same tracks ripped lossless and the sound is noticeably better.
I am using the foam buds that were already fitted which are a good fit for me. I can't hear much when the music is turned off which is perfect for these. My opinion is these are great and at the price they are a steal.
Customer Rating: Summary: I have to agree with john smith, sorry dont buy these! Comment: If you want good sound and a good upgrade from your mp3 headphones, save up! get some decent ones, shures more expensive models are great eg e4c, and se530s are amazing, also ultimate ears headphones are also great if you like bass go for the Eextended Bass phones they are brilliant, if you want accuracy then the triple fi5 or 10s are brilliant. Seriously if you worried about justifying spending that sort of money, and buy these instead you will be disappointed!! if you like bass run for the hills and keep going these are nearly as bad as the apple headphones for bass reproduction! sorry shure i do love your higher end models!!!
Hope this helps
Customer Rating: Summary: Awful - just awful Comment: To my regret, I took the advice of the few people who had shouted in their reviews to ignore those who gave negative reviews. And besides, What Hi-Fi gave these a 5-star rating, so how could they possibly be bad? So I went ahead and purchased these as an upgrade to my Sennheisers.
My first real reservations came when the product arrived, and I discovered that the cardboard box in which they come is sealed tight with very strong glue on all sides, and the only way of getting in is to destroy the box, thus making the phones non-returnable. I almost returned them there and then, but thought "Well, I've come this far, might as well go for it" - and ripped the packaging open.
Next I selected the right sized buds for my ears from the wide selection included. This is extremely important. The buds need to be completely air-tight in the ears to prevent bass-leakage.
I inserted the phones and dialled up a track on my mp3 player (320 kbps - as all my mp3s are). I couldn't believe how nasty the sound was - but remembered that all good phones need 'breaking in' to fully realise the quality. But these had a heck of a way to go if they were to sound decent. Still, I persevered.
I left them plugged into my headphone amp with music playing all day and all night.
Next morning I tried them again. Yep. Still rubbish. Metallic sounding treble and quiet bass. And I stress, this is with the phones correctly inserted, air-tight in the ears. I have tried wearing them the normal way (wires hanging down) and also pointing upwards with the wires hooked back over the ears (the instructions state either way is acceptable). No better. Just awful.
I can only think that since the reviews are so polarised, maybe there are faulty SE110s on the market, and mine are faulty ones. But ask yourself before buying these if it is worth the risk. I can only base my review on the ones I have, and these ones are definitely 0/5.
