Customer Rating: Summary: Essential iPhone Purchase!!! Comment: I have had the Mophie JuicePack Air for 8 months, the same time as I have had my iPhone 3GS. As we all know, the battery life pre-OS4 was appalling. This is an excellent product, extremely well made despite what one of the other reviews stated (sounds like misuse to me!) and does effectively double batttery life. I watched 3 films on a TGV to the South of France, listened to a few hours music and my phone still lasted for an additional 20 hours after attaching this case.
The battery power can be used in two ways. Firstly, you can activate it when the charge in the phone has all but diminished. Alternatively, you can switch it on immediately you have charged your phone to 100%. The Mophie JuicePack Air will then maintain your battery at 100%. This for me is the better method since I always seem to get a longer life by maintaing 100% then by running down and re-charging the phone from the pack. The pack is good for approximately 500 full cycles, but apparently part cycles count as one tenth of a full cycle or in other words, 10 part cycles count as 1 full cycle. Also, when you get to 500 full cycles, the pack still retains 75% of its original capacity meaning one charge will last for around 15-18 hours. It takes around 3 hours for a full charge, could be less or more, not often around when I charge it!
The casing contains a battery made from a special polymer which adds very little to the iPhone in terms of weight and thickness. It's probably about double the thickness than the iPhone so it's not too bad, easily fitting in a jeans back pocket. I have dropped my iPhone twice when it's been in the Mophie. Both times the iPhone has suffered no damage and one was a quite violent smash against a wall when I moved my arm sharply to swat a wasp and my arm caught my headphones cable. It left the case with a few scratches, but better that than a broken glass or scratched iPhone body.
The case comes in different colours. I think they have black, metallic purple, metallic ruby red, silver and I think gold. I bought a ruby red one which matches my Etymotic HF2 headphones (another ESSENTIAL PURCHASE!) and funnily enough they look like they were meant to be together.
Overall, if you want to extend the life of your iPhone 3GS series follow these instructions:
1) always turn your phone onto airplane mode on the London Underground or in areas where this is no reception. A phone spends loads of power trying to boost reception.
2) turn off cellular data if you're not browsing or using email and turn off 3G
3) turn off wi-fi and bluetooth
4) turn your screen brightness down to minimal and turn it up if you need to.
5) Download iOS4, this now has an option to turn off apps running in memory which saves loads of battery power
6) Get a Mophie Juice Pack Air and charge your iPhone battery to max with an additional two hour trickle charge and use the Mophie to keep it at 100%
Hope this helps, but it's certainly one of the two best things I bought for my iPhone the other are Etymotic HF2s
Customer Rating: Summary: A MUST FOR ANY IPHONE 3GS OWNER WHO LOVES USING THERE IPHONE Comment: this products comes in so handy when you run out of battery which any avid iphone user knows is a headache especially when your out and about and there is no electrical socket in sight. and to be honest who has there USB wire or plug charger on them all the time.
with this mophie air all you do is hit the on switch at the bottom and in a instant the red battery in the top corner of the screen changes to green, YAY!
doesn't take long to charge can be done through USB and plug, will charge up your phone in half hour, atleast that what i have noticed.
other plus points, its got a hard shell that will protect your phone all over, i know since i have dropped it on a few occasions when juggling the shopping bags.
Customer Rating: Summary: slim trim and does what it claims!!! Comment: WHat a great product this is -- you would barely know it was on the phne, it is neat, light easy to use. Gives pretty much an extra days power to the iphone - I have used it a lot when I have been away from home, and it saves a lot of worry over losing power.
Highly recommended.
Customer Rating: Summary: Nearly doubles the life and adds protection too Comment: I needed to extend the battery life on my iPhone - I use the GPS function regularly and am out often all day and into the evening - by then my battery would be close to cutting out. This little guy works a treat nearly doubling the life of my iPhone meaning I never have to worry at the end of the day - I still have loads of juice left.
It's light but does of course add some bulk to the handset - makes it twice as thick. But it also adds extra protection all round and when typing I find the extra bulk good. It makes it a bit hard to stick in your shirt pocket and it probably won't fit into your jeans pocket as well any more.
The only drawback is that it has to be manually switched on. You can leave it on all the time but it drains power doing so and won't last as long. So I just have to remember to turn in on half way through the day. The iPhone warns you when your battery is low anyway.
Also note that the USB connector is very hard to find at the moment so you might want to get a second one straight away. These connectors are only recently out so in time they'll get easier to find.
Overall - loved it.
Customer Rating: Summary: V pleased after 72 hours Comment: Found the iPhone battery life terrible, so shopped around for external batteries. This probably the most expensive but seemed to me to fit best to the iPhone. Makes it a tad chunkier but I don't mind that. Accompanying booklet is a size minus 1 font! Briefly, it does what it says - after charging (and I suspect it takes 2 charges to get up to speed) you simply flick a small switch at the base so it can feed the iPhone. I'd say I get a good 10-14 hours now, average us - emails, surfing etc.
PS Be sure to make certain you get one for the iPhone and not the iTouch.
